Subject: READER'S LETTER: Who Killed the Arab girl

Sir,

You reported based on Palestinian claims that on Monday a 10-year-old Palestinian girl was killed by Israeli tank fire at an UNWRA schoolyard in Rafah. Next day the Palestinians arrested a Palestinian suspect in the little girl's murder, who shot into the air during a religious celebration and hit her.

Many times Israel has been blamed for brutally killing Palestinians, e.g. the 12 year old Mohammad al-Dura at the start of the armed 'intifada', or the Jenin "massacre" that never was, only to be proven false when all the facts become known. Each time several articles fuelled hatred of those brutal Jews who constitute Israel. But when the accusations turned out to be false your clarifications were not loud and clear.

The Independent is one of the harshest critics of Israel and you are entitled to your views. But good journalism would require that when the facts justify it you apologize honestly and loudly, not in a 10-words correction on page ten, and you should turn all your fire against the misinformers and liars who poison the souls of Palestinians and Europeans and are an obstacle to peace.
